Quinn Ewers, the quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, is returning for his final season as the club moves to the SEC.
Prior to that, he has one more afternoon to pass to Ja’Tavion Sanders, Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington, and Adonai Mitchell before they head out to play in the NFL the next season. Ewers will pitch on March 20 at Texas’ Pro Day, according to On3. Before their Detroit showcase on April 25, Mitchell and Worthy will use this opportunity to further increase their first-round draft stock. However, it will also be Ewers’ test run prior to his 2025 draft declaration.
Ewers was the offensive cornerstone that led the Longhorns to their first Big 12 championship since 2009 during the previous season. In addition to setting career highs in completion percentage (69%) and passer rating (158.6), he completed 29 passes for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns. In the Big 12 Championship game against Oklahoma State, Ewers burst into a record-breaking 452 yards and four touchdowns, setting a conference record.

In a 37-31 loss to Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinal, Ewers completed 318 passes for 318 yards and a touchdown. In the fourth quarter, with a 13-point deficit, he nearly completed the comeback by rushing for 54 yards on eight carries. Following their impressive performances at the NFL Scouting Combine last month, Worthy and Mitchell are the top receivers in Texas. Mitchell, who spent one season in Austin after winning back-to-back titles at Georgia, ran a 4.34 40-time and posted a 39.5-inch vertical jump.
Xavier Worthy on Chiefs
However, Worthy was the one who really stole the stage and created NFL history. Worthy decided to run again and surpass John Ross’s record of 4.22 seconds with a timing of 4.21 seconds, after recording the fastest 40-time of the week at 4.25 seconds. Players from all around the league, including three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes, Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis, and former All-Pro receiver DeSean Jackson, have congratulated Worthy on making history since he broke the mark.
Tyreek Hill, a speedster for the Miami Dolphins and a former Kansas City Chief, is the model Worthy models his game after.
Given his quickness, Worthy has been associated with the Chiefs in a few of mock selections. Since losing the All-Pro in 2022, Kansas City has been without a vertical threat however, Marquise, a former Oklahoma standout, was just signed to a one-year deal worth up to $11 million.
“In a perfect world, I definitely would want to go to the Chiefs,” Worthy told USA TODAY Sports. “Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you. They had Tyreek Hill. The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me.”
With the acquisition of Silas Bolden, a transfer from Oregon State, and Matthew Golden, a transfer from Houston, Ewers will still have speed in 2024. Johntay Cook, a previous 2023 standout, is also starting his sophomore campaign for Texas.
Defensive linemen Byron Murphy and T’Vondre Sweat, linebacker Jaylan Ford, offensive lineman Christian Jones, running back/kick returner Keilan Robinson, defensive back Ryan Watts, and Whittington are among the other notable players practicing at Texas’ Pro Day.
