On Saturday night, analysts Stacey King and Adam Amin of NBC Sports Chicago went viral for all the wrong reasons. King fell for a hoax Adrian Wojnarowski post during the Chicago Bulls vs. Washington Wizards game broadcast, believing Derrick Rose was going to retire.
“It is available online,” King declared. “Adrian Wojnarowski reporting that Derrick Rose is retiring after 15 seasons.”
The topic of Rose’s Bulls career was then brought up by King and Amin. It took them a few minutes to come to the conclusion that they might have been duped. When King informed Amin that some were saying he was duped by a bogus tweet, Amin said he was still awaiting confirmation.
That would have been very embarrassing for King especially, and for the two of them. He was duped by this fictitious post.You can see how it may have appeared on King’s timeline based on the astounding 69K likes and 13K retweets this post has received. However, he should exercise far greater caution in what he says on television, particularly when the subject is as important as this.
King ought to have confirmed again with the producer or any other member of the team, as Wojnarowski is being impersonated by a lot of these phony accounts.
