John Cominsky renegotiates deal, aids Lions in cap savings.

John Cominsky adjusted his contract with the Lions.

Defensive lineman John Cominsky has agreed to modify his existing contract with the Detroit Lions. According to records from the NFLPA, Cominsky has consented to a reduction in his base salary from $5.1 million to $2.5 million, along with an additional $500,000 bonus guaranteed. Consequently, his cap hit will decrease from $6.3 million to $4.2 million for the year 2024.

Cominsky previously signed a two-year extension worth $8.5 million after the 2022 season, which included a $2.4 million signing bonus, $4 million in guaranteed money, and an average annual salary of $4,250,000.

Having spent the first three seasons of his career with the Atlanta Falcons, Cominsky has appeared in 57 career games, accumulating 7.5 career sacks, 107 combined tackles, six passes defensed, and 25 quarterback hits.

Dan Campbell, head coach of the Lions, praised Cominsky’s versatility and contributions to the team’s defensive line, emphasizing his ability to handle various roles effectively. Campbell described Cominsky as an unsung hero, highlighting his physicality, ability to generate pressure, and effectiveness against the run.
