After the Cardiff loss, Sunderland drops even farther in the Championship table as the Cats get ready for Southampton.

As the Cats prepare for Southampton, Sunderland falls even farther in the Championship position following their loss to Cardiff.

After the results on Wednesday night, Sunderland fell to 11th place in the Championship standings.

With ten games left in the season, the Black Cats fell one spot after Cardiff’s 1-0 victory against Huddersfield. After a run of five losses, Sunderland is nine points clear of the relegation zone and still 10 points outside of the play-off spots.

The team is getting ready to play Southampton on Saturday. Southampton is still in fourth place in the Championship after their match against Preston had to be postponed because of a fire close to St Mary’s Stadium. The club led by Russell Martin defeated Birmingham 4-3 last weekend to resume their winning ways, but they have already dropped three of their past five league games.

Middlesbrough’s 3-1 victory over Norwich on Wednesday brought them level on points with Sunderland as well. Despite having a lower goal differential than the Black Cats, Michael Carrick’s team still has the game in hand.
