Samuel Chukwueze is experiencing a challenging debut season with AC Milan, having been the priciest acquisition in the previous summer transfer window.
According to Tuttosport as reported by PianetaMilan, Samuel Chukwueze, who was signed from Villarreal for €20m plus €8m in bonuses, has fallen short of expectations in his debut season at AC Milan.
With only two goals, one against Borussia Dortmund and another in the Europa League victory against Newcastle, along with a single league assist, Chukwueze’s performance has not matched the high hopes placed upon him. The contrast with Christian Pulisic’s outstanding form in the same position intensifies the scrutiny on Chukwueze.
AC Milan’s manager, Stefano Pioli, acknowledged the disparity in their contributions, stating that Pulisic not only works hard but also provides assists and scores goals, emphasizing the need for Chukwueze to deliver on these fronts.
Despite this, Pioli faces a dilemma as he must rely on Chukwueze in the upcoming matches against Slavia Prague and Empoli to avoid overworking Pulisic, especially considering the latter’s injury history.
In an effort to rejuvenate Chukwueze’s form, there are indications that he might start on the right during the match against Slavia Prague, forming the attacking trio with Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao.
Tuttosport draws parallels with Charles De Ketelaere, who faced challenges in his first season after being a marquee signing, highlighting the importance of not losing faith in Chukwueze, who possesses evident talent that could still be harnessed.
