Perkins, once more, questions Boston’s capabilities.
The Boston Celtics currently hold the NBA’s best record at 45-12, but Kendrick Perkins remains unconvinced about their capabilities, especially in comparison to Western Conference powerhouses.
Despite their positive record against Western teams this season, Perkins doesn’t see the Celtics as favorites for the title. He points to their struggles against top-notch Western teams like the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Clippers, emphasizing the challenges posed by the competitive Western Conference.
Perkins acknowledges the Celtics’ impressive overall season but remains cautious about their title chances. Despite his skepticism, Boston is the betting favorite to win the Finals with +230 odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
While the Celtics have faced setbacks against the Clippers and Nuggets, Perkins sees these experiences as valuable lessons in a long NBA season. He acknowledges that a full 82-game season is bound to have challenges, and the Celtics have navigated through it successfully for most of the campaign.
Perkins, however, questions the significance of Boston’s 13-6 record against Western teams, suggesting that the real test will come in the playoffs. He highlights that losses to the Clippers and a narrow defeat to the Nuggets don’t necessarily define the Celtics’ potential success, especially if they secure home-court advantage in the playoffs.
Despite Perkins’ reservations, Boston’s immediate focus is on securing the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
