Broncos head coach Sean Payton rumored to be ‘enamored’ with Michigan QB JJ McCarthy

Now that the Super Bowl is over, NFL teams may formally begin their early off-season. Rumors begin to circulate ahead of the NFL Combine and NFL Draft as well. Paul Allen, the PA announcer for the Vikings, has heard a report that Sean Payton may have given away who the Denver Broncos are considering. He claims to be “quite enamored” with Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy, according to a source.

“There is just a little bit of steam that is beginning to emerge locally that Sean Payton loves JJ McCarthy,” said Allen. “Payton covets the next Drew Brees. So just keep that in mind, ya know, when you’re thinking 11 and if you’re thinking JJ McCarthy at 11 just know behind you have the desperate Payton who basically will beg, borrow, and steal to get exactly what he wants from this draft from a QB standpoint. A pretty reliable individual informed me over the weekend that Payton is quite enamored with JJ McCarthy.”

Despite it being Sean Payton’s first season in Denver, the Broncos are seeking to make significant adjustments after a dismal 2023 campaign. Russell Wilson, the seasoned quarterback, is slated to be released by the Broncos. With two subpar seasons under his belt and a huge contract, the Broncos believe they would be better off without him.
Wilson’s departure means that the Broncos will need to look for a quarterback once more. In the 2024 draft, a lot of experts predict the Broncos will select their franchise quarterback. Still, nobody really knows with certainty who they’ll select as their quarterback.
