Should a deal with the Atlanta Hawks happen, Victor Wembanyama and Trae Young might end up as teammates with the San Antonio Spurs.
Trae Young is reportedly being traded to the San Antonio Spurs by the Atlanta Hawks, and the All-Star guard only sparked trade suspicions once more when he was questioned about Victor Wembanyama during All-Star Weekend.
Young smiled in response, maybe hinting to a potential reunion between the two?
“The kind of player that can help him win a championship, make his job easier,” Young said when asked about who Wembanyama needed around him. “That’s the type of player he needs.”

Young would undoubtedly love playing with a post player like Wembanyama, who is easily averaging 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in his first season. Wembanyama is one of only two players in the NBA with double-digit assists.
The Spurs attack would become multi-dimensional with the addition of Young, a playmaker and point guard who is something they now lack in plenty. Teams can easily double Wembanyama in the post because the Spurs don’t have many other threats to deal with.
Teams would find it difficult to double up the potential Rookie of the Year if Young and Wembanyama were in the offense. This is because the space would be significantly different.
Young’s poor defense is a cause for concern, but with Wembanyama, Jeremy Sochan, and Devin Vassell in the lineup, having a weak point at the center of the offense wouldn’t eliminate San Antonio’s chances of winning the pennant in the future.
If the Spurs can swing a deal for Young this summer and draft high-end players who complement the core, the Spurs could see a rapid turnaround as soon as next season.
