Leeds United and Bournemouth have reached an agreement for Luis Sinisterra to join the latter on a permanent basis.
On summer’s deadline day, Sinisterra signed a season-long loan with the Cherries. Despite having a rough start, he has emerged as a vital member of the team in recent months.
In the unlikely event that Leeds did not receive promotion back to the Premier League, Bournemouth had placed an option to purchase Sinisterra at the conclusion of his loan term.
The two teams have now chosen to negotiate a new deal for about £20 million, which is less than it would have been in the summer, despite rumors that AC Milan is interested.
The Daily Echo claims Leeds has taken this action to guarantee payments immediately rather than entering into a deal that could be worth more but is dependent on add-ons and other conditions. Jaidon Anthony’s loan at Leeds is likewise unaffected in any manner.
Leeds receives guaranteed funding from Sinisterra
Even if some supporters might think this amount is cheap for a talent like Sinisterra’s, it’s smart business to make sure they get paid in full.
The Championship has very strict profit and sustainability regulations, so the club will only benefit from this kind of financial flow, especially if they don’t get promoted this year.
In the end, there’s probably too much water under the bridge, even though it would have been fantastic to have a player of his caliber rejoin the team had Leeds made it back to the Premier League.
The way he handled himself in the background when he was pushing for a move following the club’s relegation left Leeds, and more especially Angus Kinnear, less than impressed.
Fortunately, Dan James and Crysencio Summerville, who combined have contributed 35 Championship goals, have more than been able to step up to the plate since his departure back in the summer.
