Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall is in Turkey for a medical with Besiktas, sources have told Football Insider.
According to reports, the 27-year-old has decided to sign a loan agreement with the Istanbul-based team that will last until the end of the 2023–24 season.
Worrall was present when Besiktas defeated Trabzonspor 2-0 on Sunday, February 4.
In the January transfer window, Sheffield United, a struggling Premier League team, had their sights set on the center-back; however, a deal never came together.
Worrall was “unhappy” and “furious,” according to Football Insider, after Forest initially denied him a loan. Worrall missed out on a late move to the Blades. This was revealed last Friday, February 2.
With the Turkish transfer window closing this Friday, 9 February, Besiktas has now moved quickly to secure a temporary move for the defender.
Forest academy product Worrall has played in just nine games this season, clocking in at 544 minutes across all competitions.
He penned a new contract at the City Ground just last September, keeping him at the club until June 2026.
The former Rangers loanee has not started a league game since September 18, despite starting the first five Premier League games of the 2023–24 season.
At centre back, Nottingham Forest also has players like Andrew Omobamidele, Moussa Niakhate, and Murillo at their disposal.
The team led by Nuno Espirito Santo is currently two points above the relegation zone in the Premier League, sitting in 16th place following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth (4 February).
Besiktas, who currently occupy the third spot in the Turkish Premier League, have been disqualified from European competition.
