Newcastle United may soon need to bring in a new striker.
Newcastle United may soon need to add a new striker to their squad, though recent reports suggest the club might have a quiet January transfer window. However, strengthening the forward line remains a priority.
While Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, and Harvey Barnes are impressive when on form, the depth behind them doesn’t inspire much confidence. Callum Wilson, out of contract this summer, can’t always be relied upon despite his skill, and Miguel Almirón and Jacob Murphy, while wingers, haven’t fully convinced in a central role. Youngster Will Osula has yet to earn many Premier League minutes.
Isak himself is frequently linked with moves away from the club, prompting speculation that Newcastle could look to bolster their attacking options.
One such player linked with a move is Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a striker described as “complete” by none other than Carlo Ancelotti. While the move stalled in the summer after Everton demanded £40 million, Calvert-Lewin’s contract runs out in the summer, and former Everton defender Alan Stubbs suggests the player’s mind may already be elsewhere.
“Everton will not want to lose him for nothing, but it looks like his head is elsewhere,” Stubbs said. “We’re at a crossroads for his career, and for Everton to move on.”
Newcastle has tracked Calvert-Lewin for years. Insider Graeme Bailey mentioned that Eddie Howe has long been a fan of the striker, believing he could bring the best out of him if given the chance.
