The redshirt junior reportedly had an MRI, which showed no structural damage.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 3 Texas Longhorns showcased their dominance in a 31-14 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats, with a pivotal 15-play, 86-yard drive in the fourth quarter. This eight-minute march wasn’t just about sealing the win—it was also about protecting redshirt junior quarterback Quinn Ewers, who suffered an ankle sprain in the second quarter after a hip-drop tackle during a scramble.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian prioritized Ewers’ safety as the game unfolded. “I didn’t feel like it was worth exposing him, especially with how well we were running it,” Sarkisian explained. “For weeks, we’ve talked about the run game being a by-product of the passing game. Today, the run game was the key to the drill.”
Ewers received medical attention after the injury, which caused his ankle to tighten up throughout the game. Despite the setback, he referred to the sprain as “a little bit tender” during his post-game media session. On Sunday, an MRI confirmed no structural damage, with Anwar Richardson of *Orangebloods* reporting that the injury is mild and won’t sideline Ewers for Saturday’s Lone Star Showdown against Texas A&M.
“I know this whole team is fired up for just another opportunity, especially for this one with all the tradition behind it,” Ewers said.
Ewers completed the game with a solid performance, going 20-of-31 for 191 yards and two touchdowns. However, he was limited in the second half, attempting only five passes for 20 yards as the Longhorns leaned on their running game to secure the win.
Before the game, Ewers participated in Senior Day celebrations, further indicating his intention to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.
