Dundee United duo Louis Moult and Ross Graham have been sidelined in recent matches due to knee and hamstring injuries, respectively. However, manager Jim Goodwin has placed the two players on modified training regimens in an attempt to get them fit for this weekend’s upcoming clash against Rangers at Ibrox. While both players have resumed training, Goodwin has been cautious about their availability, emphasizing that while progress is being made, they are not yet guaranteed to be ready for the match. “We’re being tentative at the moment,” Goodwin explained. “They are over the worst of it, and hopefully, they won’t be too far away.”
In addition to the injury updates, Goodwin has acknowledged the impact of the international breaks on the team’s rhythm. With some of his key players away, the season has felt stop-start. However, he noted that the breaks may have allowed some players to recover from injuries, which will be crucial as the team faces a busy schedule leading up to the new year. Goodwin also expressed optimism about the team’s performance so far, with Dundee United sitting in a solid fourth place in the Premiership. Despite the good position, he is keen to keep expectations grounded. “I don’t spend too much time looking at the league table at this stage,” Goodwin said. “It’s after the Christmas period, into mid-January, when you get a much clearer picture.”
Goodwin stressed that, while the positive start to the season is encouraging, his message to the team has been consistent: avoid getting carried away. He wants everyone, from the players to the staff, to stay focused on the task at hand, taking things one game at a time. “The next one is Rangers,” he added. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards, noting that Dundee United’s experienced players know that even a slight dip in performance can lead to setbacks. With every match being fiercely competitive, Goodwin emphasized that the focus remains on preparation and readiness for the challenges ahead.
