New Orleans Parade Turns Deadly

A festive atmosphere turned into a scene of utter chaos and devastation on a Sunday afternoon in New Orleans. The city’s streets, once filled with the vibrant sounds of a second-line parade, were suddenly marred by the sound of gunfire.

Two separate shootings occurred during the parade, leaving at least two people dead and 10 others injured. The New Orleans Police Department reported that the first shooting took place at approximately 3:38 p.m., with officers discovering eight victims suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene.

A car was reportedly involved in the first shooting, with shots fired directly into the crowd. Fortunately, all the victims from the first scene are alive and receiving medical attention.

The second shooting occurred a mere 45 minutes after the first incident, with police officers finding one person deceased at the scene and a second person pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. A third victim sought medical treatment at a hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.

The police investigation into the shootings is ongoing, with authorities working to determine whether the two incidents are related. The department’s investigation is still in its early stages.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill expressed her deepest condolences to the victims and their families, condemning the senseless violence that marred the parade. “I am deeply saddened by this senseless mass shooting in New Orleans. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones.”

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence on communities across the United States. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been at least 462 mass shootings reported across the country so far this year.

The city of New Orleans is still reeling from the shock of the shootings, with the community coming together to support the victims and their families.

In a separate development, Caroline Kennedy, the outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Australia, criticized her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s views on vaccinations as “dangerous” during her farewell speech in Canberra.
