I’m a Mackem Now!’ – Wilson Isidor’s Bold Declaration Will Thrill Sunderland Fans

Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor has once again expressed his affection for life on Wearside, strengthening his connection with both the club and its fanbase. Since joining on loan from Zenit Saint Petersburg in the summer, the French forward has not only proven his worth on the pitch but also embraced the culture of his new home. In a candid admission, Isidor declared himself a “Mackem now,” a statement sure to resonate with the Black Cats’ faithful.

On the field, Isidor has been a revelation. With five goals to his name, he stands as Sunderland’s top scorer this season, playing a pivotal role in the team’s success. Off the field, his personality and willingness to integrate into the local culture have further endeared him to supporters. However, the 24-year-old admits he’s still adapting to some of the local lingo. In a lighthearted video shared by the club, Isidor and teammate Dennis Cirkin tackled Wearside colloquialisms. While words like “bairn,” “marra,” and “paggered” presented a challenge, Isidor confidently identified “ha’way,” explaining, “Ha’way? It’s like, ‘Come on, guys. Let’s go… Let’s go.’ Ha’way the lads. When I signed, I saw it right in the stadium, with the seats. You feel it, and when they say it to you, you understand what they want and mean. Yeah, I’m a Mackem now.”

Isidor’s commitment to Sunderland goes beyond his words. Speaking last month, he reiterated his desire to stay with the club beyond his loan deal, which includes an option to buy. “For me, I want to continue with Sunderland and write the club into my career and my history,” he said. The striker also praised the passionate Sunderland supporters, comparing their enthusiasm to the larger crowds he experienced at Zenit. “Zenit has a stadium of about 75,000, and even if the Stadium of Light is a bit smaller, you feel it. Everything you do—when you tackle, make a good action, or score—that’s amazing.”

Wilson Isidor’s performances and passion have undoubtedly cemented his place as a fan favorite, and his heartfelt declarations only strengthen the bond between the player and the Sunderland faithful.
