Simone Biles Documentary Series Wins Prestigious Awards

 

A documentary series showcasing the journey of US gymnast Simone Biles to the Olympic Games Paris 2024 has received two prominent Critics Choice Documentary Awards. The series, produced in association with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Channel Services, highlights Biles’ remarkable story as she prepares to return to the Olympic stage.

 

The four-part series, “Simone Biles Rising,” premiered on Netflix in July ahead of Paris 2024. It chronicles Biles’ journey as she overcomes mental health challenges and prepares to compete at the highest level. The series was honored as the Best Sports Documentary and Best Limited Documentary Series at the 9th Annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards.

 

Yiannis Exarchos, Executive Director of Olympic Channel Services, praised Biles, saying, “Simone embodies the values that make the Olympic Games a source of global inspiration. Her powerful journey is a testament to the human spirit, and we are proud to have shared it with audiences worldwide.”

 

Jérôme Parmentier, Vice-President of Media Rights and Content Partnerships at the IOC, emphasized the importance of documentaries like “Simone Biles Rising” in connecting with global audiences. “These stories deepen the connection between fans and the Olympic Movement, enhancing anticipation and viewership at Games time.”

 

The Critics Choice Documentary Awards recognize the finest achievements in documentaries, as determined by the voting of Critics’ Choice Association (CCA) members.
