David Sullivan has reportedly decided not to pursue Graham Potter for a potential return to the Premier League should West Ham part ways with Julen Lopetegui. According to GiveMeSport, the former Brighton and Chelsea manager, despite being linked with a move to the London Stadium, is not considered a top contender for the job. There are concerns within the West Ham boardroom regarding Potter’s suitability, particularly after his struggles at Chelsea, where he was dismissed in April 2023.
Despite frustrations over the club’s current form, Sullivan is reportedly not ready to make any decisions about Lopetegui’s future. While West Ham sits 14th in the Premier League after 11 matches, just five points above the relegation zone, Sullivan has yet to act. The team’s poor results, including a goalless draw with Everton, have fueled growing questions about Lopetegui’s position, but it seems Sullivan is still backing the manager.
It seems odd that Potter has already been ruled out of the running for the job, especially given the doubts surrounding Lopetegui’s tenure. Since his appointment this summer, the team’s performances have been underwhelming, and fans are growing increasingly frustrated. If results do not improve, Sullivan may need to consider alternatives, and many feel that Potter could be a strong candidate to replace Lopetegui, despite his mixed spell at Chelsea.
With the Manchester United managerial position now filled, it remains unclear whether Potter would be interested in taking up the challenge at West Ham. However, many believe he would be an excellent choice to lead the club moving forward.
