Nottingham Forest have progressed since shedding some excess players over the summer, yet one former player may now be on the verge of a return to the City Ground.
Nuno Espirito Santo has crafted a high-caliber squad at Nottingham Forest with some smart summer signings. The team’s impressive start to the season showcases these additions, with contributions coming from all areas and Chris Wood leading the charge in front of goal.
Elliot Anderson has provided the most assists this season, while Morgan Gibbs-White, though only scoring once, has consistently delivered strong performances that stats don’t fully capture.
As the January transfer window approaches, Nuno appears to have a potential signing in mind, as rumors emerge about a possible return for a former Forest player.
Nottingham Forest Interested in Re-signing Gonzalo Montiel
Gonzalo Montiel departed Forest in the summer of 2023 to join Sevilla. However, his time in Spain hasn’t gone as planned, and now he is reportedly seeking a move, with Sevilla open to letting him go. Estadio Deportivo reports that Nottingham Forest and Everton were interested in him last summer.
A January deal for the World Cup winner could be feasible, with Forest and Everton likely offered favorable terms to secure a transfer.
Gonzalo Montiel’s Time at Nottingham Forest
Last season, Montiel played a role in wins over Newcastle and Manchester United but didn’t fully win over Nuno Espirito Santo. In his 19 appearances across all competitions for Forest, he contributed two assists, though inconsistent playing time limited his impact.
Forest almost re-signed Montiel in the summer, and Nuno now seems eager to bring him back, despite the presence of Aina and Neco Williams in the squad.
