Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris has shared his thoughts on team selection ahead of the match against Preston North End. He confirmed that Alan Browne will definitely be in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s game at Deepdale. Browne, who played the full 90 minutes in Sunderland’s last match against QPR, steps in as 17-year-old Chris Rigg is unavailable due to a chest issue. With Browne’s experience and leadership, particularly after Jobe Bellingham’s recent red card which is likely to sideline him for three matches, Le Bris expressed confidence in Browne’s ability to perform well against his former club.
In discussing the upcoming challenge, Le Bris acknowledged the competitiveness of the Championship, noting that even teams at the bottom of the table are proactive and capable of posing threats. He emphasized that Preston North End will not be passive, highlighting their intensity and effectiveness with man-for-man marking. Le Bris stressed the importance of learning from past experiences, particularly after recent matches against Luton and QPR. He indicated a focus on improving specific areas, such as goal-kick restarts and building play under pressure, as Sunderland aims to elevate their performance.
Le Bris also hinted at his tactical approach for the match, especially in light of Jobe’s absence. When asked about the possibility of switching to a five-at-the-back formation, he dismissed the idea, explaining that the team has established a solid system that he prefers not to alter prematurely. He believes in the importance of maintaining a consistent structure while being able to adapt during games when necessary. His intention is to continue working with a back four, focusing on developing the team’s references and making improvements rather than implementing drastic changes at this stage of the season.
