Ben Reid, a defender in the AFL Premiership, has joined the Western Bulldogs’ red, white, and blue coaching staff for the 2025 season. Reid, a 152-game Collingwood player, has joined Jarryn Geary and Alex Johnson as a Development Coach, concentrating on the team’s young forwards.
The 35-year-old was awarded All Australian the following season after playing a part in Collingwood’s 2010 Premiership success. Reid has coached Wangaratta in the Ovens & Murray league since retiring in 2020. Having played 86 games for Footscray between 1977 and 1982, Reid’s father Bruce has a deep bond with the Bulldogs, while his brother Sam recently retired to the Sydney Swans.
Reid expressed his excitement about being a part of the Bulldogs at such a momentous occasion. “I am very eager to come in and meet everyone after Bevo called me last week. The strikers on this team are excellent talls and smalls who play a thrilling style of football, Reid remarked. The relationships and day-to-day labor of coaching truly ignited something inside me, and I discovered a genuine passion for it. I’m overjoyed to have found a fantastic team like the Western Bulldogs. From the first day of preseason to the end of the season, I firmly believe in fostering positive habits in order to help players have incredibly lengthy careers.
It has come full circle because Bevo was my first development coach at Collingwood, and I can’t wait to start working. Since Jamie Maddocks left the Bulldogs coaching staff to join West Coast last month, Reid is the sole new member.
