JUST IN: Sunderland shows keen Interest in Preston winger, Liam Millar as Jack Clarke’s potential replacement

Sunderland is well aware of interest in their star, Jack Clarke. The 23-year-old is still making waves in the Championship, and there have been nearly constant rumors that he is moving away from Wearside.
In 30 games across all competitions, the former Leeds United player has been the standout performer at the Stadium of Light, tallying 13 goals and dishing out two assists. But now that Clarke is still being pursued, the Black Cats are keeping a look out for a possible successor.

Reporter Alan Nixon claimed on his Patreon page that Sunderland is considering Preston loan star Liam Millar as a long-term Clarke substitute. With three goals and four assists in 22 games while on loan from FC Basel, the Canadian has made a positive impression.

According to Nixon, if a high enough offer is made for Clarke, Sunderland may consider moving forward with Millar, even if they are unlikely to change their high valuation of the player.
Millar has performed well since returning to the Championship, so it makes sense that teams like Sunderland would want to keep him around. He would be a good substitute for Clarke as well, providing a formidable presence on the left when cutting onto his more powerful right foot.

It would very probably be possible to negotiate a deal for Clarke if he were to leave.

The former Liverpool player has 98 games played, 13 goals, and 10 assists. Since Millar has a contract there that expires in the summer of 2025, it’s possible that fans like Sunderland will see the summer as a favorable time to cash in.
