Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, is the preferred choice for many to fill the vacant England position.
The FA has yet to name Gareth Southgate’s successor, with Lee Carsley currently serving as interim England manager. After winning his first two Nations League matches, he is set to lead the team in two more games this month.
While Carsley appears to be a frontrunner for the role, Eddie Howe has also been linked to the England job since Southgate’s departure. Many pundits, including Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, have advocated for Howe to take the reins, suggesting he has done all he can at Newcastle United. However, Newcastle fans are eager for Howe to remain in his current position.
A recent report from Sky Sports adds to the speculation surrounding Howe’s future. Reporter Rob Dorsett stated that prominent candidates, including Howe, have not been contacted by the FA regarding the England managerial position.
Dorsett noted, “A significant piece of news is that Jurgen Klopp, Graham Potter, Eddie Howe, and Thomas Tuchel have had no contact from the FA about the vacant England men’s senior manager position.” This development increases the chances of Lee Carsley securing the role on a long-term basis.
With no approach made to either Howe or Newcastle United, fans are hopeful that the current situation will remain unchanged. The coming weeks could prove pivotal, as Newcastle prepares to face Everton and then Brighton after an international break.
During this period, Carsley has an opportunity to bolster his credentials, with England set to play against Greece and Finland in the Nations League. If Carsley achieves two more victories, it may further diminish the likelihood of Howe receiving a call from the FA.
