Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi expresses his feelings about Everton after a “missed opportunity.”

Crystal Palace initially led against Everton on Saturday, but two second-half goals from Dwight McNeil flipped the match at Goodison Park, leaving the Eagles still in search of their first win.

Marc Guehi believes Crystal Palace must absorb the harsh lessons from their loss at Everton as they seek their first Premier League win. Despite taking the lead and controlling the game at halftime, Palace ended up disappointed after the match turned against them. With Liverpool, the current league leaders, on the horizon this Saturday, Guehi insists they need to step up.

“It was a massive opportunity missed,” stated the England centre-back. “We should have done better, and now we have to regroup. There’s only one feeling—disappointment. We let ourselves down. We need to improve our mentality, be stronger, and start winning games, simple as that. It’s back to training, back to basics, and we must be ready for the next game.”

Midfielder Adam Wharton echoed Guehi’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for improvement. “We need to keep creating chances during the game and hope for another goal, but we didn’t do that. It’s time to hit the training ground and work harder because the results aren’t coming, and our performances aren’t good enough.”

Palace manager Oliver Glasner lamented the team’s cold start after halftime. “We controlled most of the first half, but we had a bad 15 minutes right after the break where we lost the game. For most of the match, we didn’t look like we would lose, which makes it more disappointing.”

He noted the crowd’s frustration at halftime and how conceding an easy goal shifted the momentum to Everton. “They gained belief, and the second goal was also from a second-phase situation where we weren’t ready. We tried everything but got nervous and failed to find the right spaces.”

Glasner concluded, “We are not pleased with our start to the season. Now, we need to stick together and navigate through this situation.”
