Southampton fans are growing anxious about their team’s chances of survival, even with only five games into the Premier League season.
Russell Martin’s side is still without a win, despite youth star Tyler Dibling scoring early against Ipswich Town last weekend.

However, a late equalizer by Sam Morsy left them settling for a draw.
The recent 3-0 defeat to Manchester United at St Mary’s still stings, with Jack Stephens struggling defensively. His form this season has been concerning, particularly against United, where he was sent off after a poor challenge on Alejandro Garnacho, who then scored late in the game. Stephens also faltered against Brentford, winning just one of five duels in their 3-1 loss.

Tyler Harwood-Bellis replaced Stephens against Ipswich and impressed with 50 accurate passes, raising questions about Stephens’ place in the lineup. His high salary of £45k-per-week also raises eyebrows, as he earns more than standout new signings Yukinari Sugawara and Ben Brereton-Diaz, who are on £40k and £35k respectively.
With his contract up next summer, Martin will need to address Stephens’ future soon.
He remains a key figure, but his performances need to improve drastically to help Southampton stay afloat in the Premier League.
