Newcastle United target Marc Guehi isn’t the kind of player who would hand in a transfer request.
Marc Guehi did not push to leave Crystal Palace for Newcastle United and has instead shown manager Oliver Glasner that he is “really pleased” to be at the club.
Newcastle had identified Guehi as their top summer target and even made a club-record offer, but they ultimately failed to sign the Crystal Palace captain after an exhausting pursuit. While Guehi was open to the move, he wasn’t the type to submit a transfer request.
Guehi has always valued what Crystal Palace has done for him, providing the platform for him to become both a Premier League regular and an England international. Now that the transfer window is closed, Glasner is relieved that his captain remains with the squad, even though it was “never really in doubt” from his perspective.
“I’m very happy that Marc Guehi is still with us, along with Eberechi Eze,” Glasner said. “We know the importance of keeping our key players, so it’s great that the club and our owners decided to hold on to Marc. He didn’t push to leave, and Eb is the same.”
Glasner further added, “Looking at everything, we don’t discuss things that might come across as complaints. I don’t want to seem like a victim, and constant complaining would give that impression.”
He continued, “They had only 10 days of pre-season and have played every minute since, which is why Marc cramped up at the end. This is his third game this week, playing 100 minutes each time with no pre-season. It’s incredible how they perform, driven by passion and a desire to help the team. It shows me they are truly happy to be Crystal Palace players, and I deeply appreciate that.”
