Neco Williams praises ‘crucial’ Nottingham Forest star.

Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams is set to join Wales for the first international break of the 2024/25 season.

Neco Williams has started all three Premier League games for Nottingham Forest this season and is a well-liked member of the squad. The young right-back, signed from Liverpool for £17 million, is still seen as a developing talent with the potential to improve further.

Williams was one of 23 new signings made shortly after Forest’s promotion back to the Premier League, and he has since made 72 appearances for the club. The season has started well for Forest under Nuno Espirito Santo, who has led the team to an unbeaten run of three games, securing one win and two home draws.

Several Forest players are heading off for international duty, reflecting the growing quality within the squad. Among them is Morgan Gibbs-White, who is set to represent England. His call-up to the senior squad, managed by interim boss Lee Carsley, has been long anticipated by those at Forest, including Williams.

Williams expressed his thoughts on Gibbs-White’s inclusion, saying: “I’m surprised it’s taken this long. He’s probably been our best player since he joined. He’s so important for us, he creates stuff, he gets goals and assists, so it was only a matter of time before he got the call. Better late than never, I suppose.”

Gibbs-White found out about his England call-up last week and received an enthusiastic response from his teammates. Williams shared the team’s reaction: “We’re all buzzing for him. We could see how much it meant to him when he got the call-up. We have televisions in the changing rooms, and when we saw it, everyone was just screaming and shouting. It was a good moment.”

Gibbs-White will now aim to make his mark in the upcoming Nations League games, hoping to continue his strong form and return to Forest ready to contribute further at the club level.
