Crystal Palace eye Chelsea outcast as Arsenal star deal nears completion

Crystal Palace may still pursue Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah before the transfer window closes on Friday, even as Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal and Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg are on the way.

Chadi Riad, Ismaïla Sarr, and Daichi Kamada have been standout additions for Crystal Palace this summer, but the club has also seen key departures. Michael Olise has joined Bayern Munich, Joachim Andersen moved to Fulham, and Jordan Ayew went to Leicester. There’s also the possibility that Marc Guehi could be tempted away by Newcastle before the window closes.

Palace seem to be preparing for Guehi’s potential exit by securing a deal for Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix for €18 million (£15.2 million) and exploring other defensive options.

According to the Daily Mail, Trevoh Chalobah remains on Palace’s radar, with a late bid for the Chelsea defender possible. Chalobah, who has been relegated to Chelsea’s ‘bomb squad,’ is among those the club is keen to offload this week. Despite a modest Premier League appearance tally last season, Chalobah is now deemed surplus to requirements after Chelsea’s busy summer of transfers.

In addition to Chalobah, Palace are set to finalize a deal for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, expected to be completed on Thursday. The move will see Palace pay £25 million, plus £5 million in add-ons, for the forward who has yet to feature in Arsenal’s Premier League games this season.

Palace’s Premier League campaign has been rocky, with losses to Brentford and West Ham. However, a morale-boosting 4-0 Carabao Cup win over Norwich may lift spirits ahead of their upcoming match against Chelsea. Chalobah could find himself playing for either Chelsea or Palace by then.
