The Whites have long held an interest in the Austria international
However, with Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter now having left Elland Road, the Whites could be ready to rekindle their interest in the Austia international. Now, the Rheinische Post report that Leeds will make a move for Ljubicic ahead of Friday’s deadline day.
Ljubicic scored twice as Cologne beat Braunschweig 5-0 in Bundesliga 2 on Saturday, playing in a right-wing role. However, he can also play in a more central position, and could offer Daniel Farke some much-needed flexibility.
The reports in Germany suggest a £3.4m bid from Leeds were turned down earlier this summer, with the Whites thought to need to bid around £5m to land Ljubicic.
Cologne managing director Christian Keller was asked about transfers this weekend, but refused to be drawn on specific deals, saying: “It is normal that there are rumours at the end of a transfer phase.”
Ljubicic played 131 times for Rapid Vienna in his native Austria before moving to Germany with Cologne 2021. He played three seasons in the Bundesliga but was unable to prevent his side from slipping out of the top flight last term. He has appeared in the Champions League for Vienna, and in Europe for Cologne.
