Carlos Corberán insists that the Baggies must keep up the “character and personality” they’ve shown in their first two games to secure a positive result at Stoke City on Saturday (3pm).
The Baggies will travel up the M6 to the bet365 Stadium to face Stoke City, having secured a win against QPR in their opening match and a goalless draw with Leeds United last weekend at The Hawthorns.
Stoke City won 1-0 against Coventry City in their first game but suffered a 3-0 defeat to Watford in their most recent outing. This loss marked only their second defeat in the last 11 matches across all competitions.
In his pre-match press conference, Carlos Corberán described Stoke as a “strong team” and emphasized the need for Albion to be aware of the challenge ahead if they want to maintain their unbeaten start in the Sky Bet Championship. Corberán noted, “Stoke City is a strong team. They consistently invest in their squad and have stabilized their coaching staff. They achieved their goals last season and have consolidated their ideas through pre-season.”
He added, “Although Watford defeated them last weekend, Watford has one of the strongest squads in the Championship. Stoke, however, is very strong at home, with an impressive unbeaten record at the bet365 Stadium, not losing any of their last five home games, dating back to last season.”
Corberán acknowledged the difficulty of playing away in the Championship, stating, “We need to focus on our game plan and aim to be the stronger team on the day. We must learn from last year’s draw against them, where we didn’t deserve the point because they outperformed us.”
He concluded, “Every game in this division is unique. I was pleased with our character against QPR and our defensive organization against Leeds. We need to continue improving both defensively and offensively while maintaining our team’s character and personality. Competing at our best level is crucial.”
