On Sunday, O Jogo reported that Mateus Fernandes of Sporting is nearing a move to Southampton.
According to updates from Record and O Jogo, the 20-year-old midfielder has already traveled to England and will undergo a medical at Southampton today. His transfer is expected to be officially announced on Tuesday.
Southampton have agreed to a deal worth around €15 million, plus an additional €5 million in bonuses. Sporting is confident they will reach the €20 million total with easily attainable bonuses and will also receive 10% of any future sale profit. Fernandes has already said his goodbyes to his Sporting teammates as he prepares for his new club.
Fernandes, who came through Sporting’s academy and debuted for their senior team in 2022, played 10 matches for them and spent last season on loan at Estoril Praia.
