Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has confirmed that Stefan de Vrij and Piotr Zielinski will be unavailable for the match against Genoa, but he’s pleased with Lautaro Martinez, who cut short his holiday to rejoin training early.
Inzaghi addressed the media on Friday, ahead of Inter’s first Serie A game of the season at Marassi against Genoa. He praised the opponent, noting their strong form and passionate fanbase, making it a challenging fixture.
He emphasized the importance of commitment and focus to defend their title, mentioning that Zielinski should return for Round 2 against Lecce, while De Vrij will also miss the Genoa match.
Inzaghi expressed pride in the team’s past achievements, noting that despite challenges, Inter has remained competitive both in Italy and Europe. He also highlighted the motivation and positive attitude within the squad, which he attributes to the team’s strong preparation.
Regarding the transfer market, Inzaghi acknowledged the need to finalize a signing due to Buchanan’s injury and emphasized the importance of adding a valuable left-wing back. He confirmed that with Gudmundsson’s move to Fiorentina, Inter won’t be signing a new striker this summer, keeping faith in their current attacking options.
When asked about his goals for the season, Inzaghi reflected on the balance between winning Serie A again or reaching the Champions League final, expressing pride in the team’s past success and focusing on providing more memorable moments for fans.
As for the upcoming match, Inzaghi is still deciding on the starting lineup but noted that Lautaro is in good shape and motivated. He also mentioned that the signing of a new defender will impact Inter’s UEFA squad list, requiring careful consideration once the deal is finalized.
