Southampton poised to sign Norwich City youngster

Norwich City talent Oli Newman is reportedly on the verge of joining Southampton, according to The Secret Scout.

Norwich City has seen many academy talents rise to the first team over the years, and there are hopes that new players will follow this path under Johannes Hoff Thorup’s management. Several young prospects featured in the recent EFL Cup win over Stevenage, including Brad Hills and Jaden Warner, who started at centre-back, and Liam Gibbs, Gabe Forsyth, and Elliot Myles, who came off the bench.

One promising player, 16-year-old Oli Newman, appears set to move away from Norwich. According to The Secret Scout, Newman is on the verge of joining Southampton, a move that could see him progress in the Premier League. Although the terms of the deal are not specified, the Canaries are likely to lose this talent to the Saints.

Newman has made one appearance for Norwich’s U18 team and has been capped six times by Wales U16s. While Norwich had hoped he would follow the common route from academy to first team, it seems he is poised for a move before achieving that. Southampton, known for their excellent youth development, will provide a great environment for Newman’s growth.

For Norwich, any funds from Newman’s transfer will likely be reinvested into their academy to support future stars. Meanwhile, the first team, coming off a win against Stevenage, will aim for their first league victory under Thorup when they face Blackburn Rovers, who have had a strong start to the season.
