According to The News, Portsmouth are not looking to sign Wolves midfielder Luke Cundle during this transfer window.
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho is known to admire Wolves midfielder Luke Cundle, but a transfer this summer is not on the cards. Stoke City are reportedly keen to bring Cundle back to Staffordshire before the transfer window closes later this month, according to journalist Fraser (Fletcher) Gillan on X.
Cundle, 22, is contracted to Wolves until June 2026. He spent the latter half of last season on loan at Stoke, where he made 16 appearances, scored two goals, and contributed to their campaign. However, recent reports from The News suggest that Portsmouth won’t be pursuing him due to his wage demands likely being beyond their budget.
Although Cundle would have been a valuable addition to Portsmouth’s midfield, they have other options like Marlon Pack, Andre Dozzell, Owen Moxon, Terry Devlin, and Tom Lowery. With Portsmouth not in the running, Stoke City could seize the opportunity to re-sign him. Cundle’s previous success at the Bet365 Stadium and his familiarity with manager Steven Schumacher could work in Stoke’s favor.
Cundle, who began his career at Warrington Town and Burnley before joining Wolves as a teenager in 2014, has progressed through their youth ranks and made seven first-team appearances.
He has also had loan spells at Swansea City and Plymouth Argyle to aid his development.
With a regular spot in Wolves’ top-flight XI looking unlikely, Cundle’s departure could provide him with the game time he needs. Wolves now face a decision on his next move. Meanwhile, Stoke City have kicked off their season with a 1-0 win over Coventry City, while Portsmouth drew 3-3 away at Leeds United.
