Newcastle could land a £40m ‘outstanding’ defender as an alternative to Marc Guehi.

Newcastle United faced a late PSR scare in late June but successfully raised the needed funds to avoid a potential points deduction.

Now, the Magpies can focus on strengthening their squad as they aim for a return to the Champions League. Eddie Howe is particularly interested in bolstering the defense, with Marc Guehi identified as a key target.

However, if Newcastle can’t secure Guehi, they might turn their attention to his teammate, Joachim Anderson.

According to GiveMeSport, Newcastle could pursue Anderson if negotiations for Guehi fall through. The Magpies have been pushing for Guehi, but Crystal Palace’s £60m valuation remains unmet, with their initial £50m bid rejected.

If a deal for Anderson becomes feasible, Newcastle may shift their focus to the Denmark international, who is reportedly valued at around £40m.

Looking at Anderson’s statistics, he could be a solid addition to Newcastle’s defense. The 28-year-old ranks in the top six percent for clearances per 90 minutes among European defenders and is in the top four percent for expected assisted goals, showcasing his playmaking ability from deep.

Fulham is also interested in Anderson, having had a £20m bid rejected earlier this week. He’s been described as “outstanding” by We Are Palace.
