Bill Belichick is leaving the New England Patriots after 24 seasons and six Super Bowl championships in search of greener pastures.
Belichick is still working to complete that process in order to exceed both George Halas and Don Shula, win more championships, and unquestionably become the greatest NFL coach of all time.
Undoubtedly, several teams will vie for the privilege of achieving that, and Belichick will have a selection of teams to select from.
However, everything hinges on the type of team he desires. There are teams that are primed to contend for a Super Bowl right now, teams that aren’t quite championship contenders but could need a little boost, and those that, with the right development, could be successful for many years to come.
Here are the five most likely landing spots for the six-time Super Bowl winner head coach’s
5. The Philadelphia Eagles
It is quite unlikely that the Philadelphia Eagles will fire Nick Sirianni, even if they lose against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That being said, it’s not impossible. Dan Graziano of ESPN says that sunsetting Sirianni is a definite possibility, especially in light of how long their previous head coach was in office.
4. The Dallas Cowboys
Although the Eagles haven’t made it clear how frustrated they are with Sirianni, the Dallas Cowboys, Philly’s NFC East rivals, haven’t done the same.
In order to help Dallas regain its title as “America’s Team,” owner Jerry Jones of the Cowboys may decide to spend a ton of money to head coach Mike Belichick. Jones has a history of making erratic decisions in this regard.
3. Los Angeles Chargers
There is a head coaching vacancy on three teams, this being the first. The Chargers have the strongest offensive line of the three.
The Chargers have every element of a potent offense, whether you consider wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, quarterback Justin Herbert, or running back Austin Ekeler.
2. Las Vegas Raiders
Belichick might run into Tom Brady, his best coworker ever, if he decides to move out west to the desert.
At least somewhat, that is. Brady would play a major role in attempting to persuade Belichick to visit Las Vegas as he recently purchased a modest share in the Raiders.
1. Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons are among the most talented young teams in the league and are by far the favorites to sign Belichick.
Tight end Kyle Pitts would be in a system that puts an emphasis on getting him the ball after being stopped by the mind-boggling coaching of Arthur Smith.
