Craig Biggio reacted brilliantly when his son hit a home run against the Astros.

Craig Biggio, a former member of the Houston Astros, witnessed a momentous game between his former team and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. When Biggio’s son Cavan Biggio, a Dodger, stepped up to the plate with his team leading 5-4 in the top of the eighth inning, Biggio was watching from the stands. Against Tay Scott, the Astros reliever, Cavan worked a 2-2 count. The Dodgers hitter then proceeded to foul off Scott’s sixth pitch before launching a 92 mph fastball into the right-field stands. While his son was trotting around the bases, Craig Biggio was featured prominently in the Dodgers broadcast. After seeming divided for a while, the elder Biggio eventually smiled, as his “dad” side likely overcame his “Astros” side.

This season, Cavan Biggio has had difficulty at the plate. The Dodgers signed him last month after he was released by the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the season. The younger Biggio was batting.180 going into the game on Saturday after playing in 23 Dodger games with one home run. But, in the Astros game, the stats were meaningless. In the game, Biggio went 2-for-3 with a walk, including a double and a home run. It was insufficient, though, to guarantee a Dodger victory. In the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings, the Astros scored three runs in a row, capping a 7–6 comeback. Craig Biggio had the best of both worlds as a father and a former Astro.
