Leeds United are one of several clubs to appreciate free agent Brahima Diarra this summer, according to Foot Mercato.
The French outlet reported via its website on Friday (26 July) that the 21-year-old has caught the eye of the Whites as well as Leicester City, Burnley and a host of European clubs who are all keen on securing his signature.
Diarra left Huddersfield Town upon the expiry of his contract at the end of last season and is currently representing Mali in the Olympics where he is looking to showcase his talent this summer.
Once the Olympic Games are finished, the midfielder will then make a decision on his future and pick his next club.
Will Leeds United sign Brahima Diarra in the summer transfer window?
Whether or not Leeds United are interested in Diarra or their name is just being used to help drum up interest in the free agent, this is the sort of incredibly interesting link that can be so interesting in the transfer window.
Diarra barely played for Huddersfield last season as he was frozen out at the John Smith’s Stadium having failed to agree on a new contract with the Terriers as they were relegated to League One.
Daniel Farke’s side are known to be in the market for a new midfielder following the departures of Archie Gray and Glen Kamara in the early stages of the transfer window and the 21-year-old could fit the bill.
The Mali youth international is an incredibly talented player, but he doesn’t necessarily have that creative part Leeds are looking for.
Throughout his short career so far, he has only managed to score one league goal which came for Harrogate Town in League Two.
This could be a gamble worth taking on a free transfer however as Diarra has the skillset to be a natural replacement for Kamara alongside one of Ilia Gruev or Ethan Ampadu this season.
The competition for his signature seems intense, but the promise of regular game time at Elland Road may be enough to sway the midfielder in the Whites’ direction.
