Leeds United are now ready to focus on making more transfers after generating plenty of income already this off season, Dan Plumley has said.
The Whites have already sold Archie Gray to Tottenham for £40million and added further cash through selling Diego Llorente, Charlie Cresswell and Glen Kamara.
urthermore, the coffers at Elland Road were boosted by an unspecified, but undoubtedly, lucrative sponsorship deal with energy drinks conglomerate Red Bull, who also attained a stake in the club (BBC Sport, 30 May).
With Jayden Bogle and Joe Rodon already through the door, finance expert Plumley feels confident that the focus now for 49ers Enterprises is on buying talent, not selling it.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, he said: “I think that’s (focusing on incomings) likely, it’s how it plays out isn’t it?
“So getting over the disappointment of not getting promoted means you’ve probably; got to shift some on but then if you can command a decent sale price for those players then that can drive some incomings.
“We’ve also had the situation around the Red Bull deal as well and them coming in and making some investment and potential sponsporship opportunities over the top, which helps the picture as well.
“I think to me it seems likely and that’s just the way it’s played out following the play-off final loss.
“If that goes the other way it might play out differently but yeah it’s the situation that they’re in, but I think it’s likely we’ll see some incomings as well because I’m sure objective number one this season will promotion.”
Leeds United in a strong position
It was always likely that some sales would be needed this summer after the play-off final heartbreak to Southampton.
The only surprise really is that Gray was the man sacrificed to try and assuage the balance books for PSR reasons but a few other smart sales coupled with the Red Bull means the Whites have a strong hand.
Which is why, despite heavy speculation to the contrary, there is no guarantee that Wilfried Gnonto or Crysencio Summerville leave before the end of the window – indeed you sense that only really huge offers in relation to their market value will now convince Leeds to sell.
The full-time return of Rodon is excellent news while Bogle plugs a gap at right-back left by Gray. Now you feel Leeds can press on with a few more additions to strengthen their chances of promotion to the Premier League.
