Trabzonspor are optimistic about securing a permanent transfer for Paul Onuachu from Southampton by the end of this month.
The Nigeria international had a successful 2023-24 season on loan with Trabzonspor, netting 17 goals in 25 league and cup matches.
Onuachu joined the Turkish club after the Saints were relegated from the Premier League in May 2023 and is eager to continue his career at Papara Park.
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has indicated that negotiations with Southampton are progressing, with the transfer fee being the only remaining issue.
“There is no problem between us and Onuachu,” Dogan told A Spor. “He and his family love the city very much, and he constantly tells us and his family that he wants to stay here.
“His club has a serious offer, and they are slowly reducing their asking price while we are increasing our bid. Hopefully, we plan to finalize this deal within the next week.”
Onuachu moved to England in January 2023 after three-and-a-half seasons at Genk. He made 11 appearances for Southampton without scoring before joining Abdullah Mucib Avci’s side six months later.
