Sheffield Wednesday boss eyes ‘next step’ – Owls share facilities with reigning Euro champions

Sheffield Wednesday manager, Danny Röhl, is eager to see the Owls advance in their preparations for the upcoming season. The team has been back in training for over a week, working hard to get ready for the 2024/25 campaign. However, their efforts are set to intensify over the next six days as they move to the Football Association’s facility at St. George’s Park.

During their time at St. George’s Park, the Owls will share the venue with the current UEFA Women’s Championship champions, England, who are preparing for their qualifier against the Republic of Ireland under the guidance of Sarina Wiegman. Röhl has praised the ‘fantastic’ facilities available at the Staffordshire site. He believes that this camp, which precedes their trip to Germany and Austria later in the month, will be crucial for advancing their preparations. With no matches scheduled, the focus will be entirely on training. Speaking to the club, Röhl emphasized the importance of the camp, stating, “We keep going and this week we go to our first preseason camp and I am looking forward to this as the next step… We need time to bring everyone together, to be connected and we will keep going and move forward. We will have fantastic facilities and this will be a big part, we are strong together, we can train two times in the day and this is fantastic. It is also to build up a good group and a good team spirit which is very helpful to have as soon as possible in a preseason camp. We will now stay together for some days and work on some good topics.”

The Owls began their friendlies on a positive note, defeating Alfreton Town 2-0 over the weekend. They are now looking forward to upcoming matches against RB Salzburg, Werder Bremen, and Leganes as part of their preseason schedule.
