Emil Hansson: Always my dream to play in England

First Interview: Emil Hansson

Emil Hansson aims for immediate success and significant goal contributions in his debut season wearing royal blue. Birmingham City secured the productive winger from Eredivisie side Heracles Almelo for an undisclosed fee, continuing their strong start to the transfer window.

In the past two seasons in the Netherlands, Hansson has been involved in 46 goals (21 goals and 25 assists) across both the Dutch First and Second Divisions. Speaking to BluesTV at the Birmingham City Elite Performance and Innovation Centre, Hansson discussed his playing style and how he plans to enhance Blues’ attacking efforts.

“I primarily play on the left wing. I enjoy having the ball at my feet and combining with my teammates, but I can also take on defenders one-on-one or deliver crosses.

“The way we want to play this season, I think it will suit me. The more of the ball I can get upfront, the more I can create, and I like to create chances for the team.”

Hansson, who has signed a three-year contract with the club, is Birmingham’s latest summer signing, joining fellow attacking addition Alfie May.

The Swedish winger elaborated on his reasons for joining the club and the positive interactions he has had with Manager Chris Davies.

“I’ve already had good conversations with the Manager. He seems like a good person who wants to help everyone and improve the players.

“I also had a great talk with him and Craig Gardner. They shared the club’s plans, particularly for next season, which I found very compelling. It was something I couldn’t turn down.”
