Former Blackburn Rovers player Clinton Mola has signed for Bristol Rovers.

Clinton Mola, a former defender for Rovers, has signed a three-year contract with League One club Bristol Rovers.

Clinton Mola, who had a loan spell at Ewood Park from German club Stuttgart in the 2022/23 season but only managed six appearances for the first team, spent the entirety of last season at Reading, featuring in 35 matches as the Royals dealt with challenges and finished 17th in the league.

Now, the 23-year-old has joined Bristol Rovers, where he will be working under manager Matt Taylor, a Chorley native who took over at the Memorial Stadium last December following a stint at Rotherham.

In an interview with the club’s website, Mola expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating, “Joining Bristol Rovers is an exciting opportunity for me. When I heard the club was interested in signing me, I was immediately interested. The club has shown me a lot of support, and that played a significant role in my decision to join Rovers. I’m thrilled to be here and eager to get started. With the ambition of the manager, the coaching staff, and the support from the club, this is a very positive environment to be in.”

He emphasized the impact of ambitious leadership, saying, “When you have a chairman and board of directors who are ambitious, that trickles down in the right way through the entire club. For me, that’s one of the most positive things about being here.”

Bristol Rovers finished 15th in League One last season and have bolstered their squad by signing midfielder Isaac Hutchinson from Walsall as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Reflecting on his career so far, Mola added, “This is my fifth year as a professional footballer, so I have some experience, but I’m still young and feel there’s much more I can achieve. My time abroad has really helped my development, and now I’m ready for the next step in my journey. Bristol Rovers feels like the right move, and I’m excited to get started. The manager has outlined his expectations for me to be robust defensively and contribute to the team’s success, particularly in carrying the ball forward to help us win games.”
