Millwall supporters will be looking forward to seeing newly signed striker Macauly Langstaff in action at The Den next season.
There remain question marks over the future of Zian Flemming with the Lions amid reported transfer interest but Neil Harris has been proactive in sourcing a potential recruitment. Langstaff features alongside news from Watford and Leeds United in your Monday Championship round-up.
New Millwall signing tipped for Premier League future
Millwall confirmed the signing of talisman Macauly Langstaff from Notts County last week, the London club forking out a fee believed to be around £700,000 for the player who bagged 28 goals in League Two last season.
The 27-year-old has been a division’s top scorer in each of his past three seasons, moving from the National League North with Gateshead to the National League and then League Two with Notts County. Langstaff has signed a long-term contract at The Den but Gateshead manager Rob Elliot has tipped the player for future stardom.
Speaking about the deal, which has been of financial benefit to Gateshead too, he told the Sunderland Echo: “I genuinely think it’s just another step on his journey to the Premier League if I am honest. First and foremost, he’s just a brilliant person and whenever I came in he was the life and soul of the place. He always had something about him and it was always a case of once he clicked he could do anything he wanted.
“I really hope this is another step on his journey and I think Millwall have done a very good piece of business. Notts County have progressed him well and the start Mike (Williamson) and Ian (Watson) gave him at Gateshead held him in good stead. We are just really proud as a club we are helping players that are going into the higher levels of the game, whether that’s our own players or players we have taken on loan.”
Watford put transfer ‘on hold’
Watford have put a summer transfer move for Haitian striker Frantzdy Pierrot ‘on hold’ amid concerns over his eligibility for a work visa to make the switch to the Championship.
That’s according to Alan Nixon on Patreon, who says that the Hornets are now hesitant in pursuing a £1.8 million transfer for the player, who currently represents Israeli side Maccabi Haifa.
The talisman has also played for Guingamp in France, Mouscron in Belgium and Reading United in the USA before joining Haifa in 2022. Pierrot is believed to be keen to make the switch to the Championship.
Leeds United star set for Elland Road exit
Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara will undergo a medical with Ligue 1 side Rennes this week ahead of an £8.6 million exit from Elland Road.
It’s the latest high-profile departure from Yorkshire as Daniel Farke consolidates his squad for another year in the Championship, having missed promotion last time out. Kamara joined the club from Rangers last summer and made 37 appearances in the second tier.
Taking to social media platform X on Monday, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote: “Glen Kamara will undergo medical tests as new Rennes player on Tuesday. Deal done for €10m with Leeds United as revealed on Saturday. Exclusive story, set to be confirmed.”
