Yankees rumors: Gio Urshela, a free agent, is being pursued by three teams, including NYY.

MLB Network’s John Morosi reports that the Mets and Yankees are among the teams interested in free agent reliever Gio Urshela.

In addition to the New York teams, the Miami Marlins also showed interest in Urshela.

The 32-year-old’s left pelvic injury that occurred in June ended his 2023 season.

It seems obvious that Urshela will end up with a New York team. The bank employment preparations will start in the spring.

If Urshela signs, he might be a candidate to take Brett Baty’s spot at third base as the veteran infielder is having trouble and Mark Vientos is being utilized as a pinch hitter.

With the exception of injuries, the Yankees, who have known Urshela since he was in the Bronx in 2019–2021, have established themselves in all four starting positions.

Gio Urshela is a free agent that a number of teams seeking depth in the outfield are interested in.

During the offseason, Urshela garnered a lot of attention, and the Mets and Yankees were frequently associated with him.

Both New York teams are interested, according to a Dec. 31 story from Will Sammon of The Athletic.

Like every other Major League Baseball team, the Yankees are familiar with Urshela.

He batted.310/.359/.523 in 175 games over his first two seasons with the Yankees, with 27 home runs and 104 RBI.

In March 2022, Urshela was moved as part of the Josh Donaldson trade to the Minnesota Twins.

In 214 at-bats during his lone season with the Angels, Urshela hit.299/.324/.374.

Urshela might be added by the Mets and Marlins as insurance.

if Brett Baty and Jake Burger, their third basemen, have a rough season.

In the event that Anthony Volpe or DJ LeMahieu fall short of expectations, the Yankees may want to consider purchasing insurance.
